The Babadook (2014) wins best film, best director and best original screenplay

The Babadook wins best picture, best direction and best original screenplay at the 2015 Australian film awards.

The Babadook is a 2014 Australian psychological horror film written and directed by Jennifer Kent and stars Essie Davis (The Matrix series),  Noah Wiseman, Daniel Henshall (Snowtown), Hayley McElhinney, Barbara West and Ben Winspear.

First released to critical acclaim at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival, The Babadook has now (January 2015) won three film awards including best picture at the 2015 Australian Academy Cinema Television Arts (AACTA) awards which is the Australian equivalent of the Oscars.

The awards informations described the awards as:

“In an unusual though not unprecedented twist, two feature films were awarded the AACTA Award for Best Film; THE BABADOOK (by first-time feature film director, Jennifer Kent) and THE WATER DIVINER (also marking a directorial debut for Russell Crowe).

THE BABADOOK also took home the AACTA Award for Best Direction presented by Hyundai Genesis, and Best Original Screenplay.”
