Jug Face (2013) Film Review and Preview Trailer

Offbeat hillbilly horror

Ada;  Not so pure, young, headstrong girl who lives in a moon-shining, small and remote community somewhere in the back-end of America’s deep south.

Ada’s folk are hillbilly’s, but seem pretty harmless, however they do worship ‘The Pit’, a creepy…how to explain…an actual pit filled with blood, on the outskirts of their township…the Pit communicates with the local Potter who receives regular visions and after a fair whack of moonshine,  makes a jug resembling a locals face. Once your face is on the jug you are sacrificed to the bloody Pit, whatever that Pit wants it seems to get.

Ada has a lot going on, she has been doing ‘it’ with her brother (hillbilly factor), pregnant and promised to be ‘joined’ with another local fella…and her face is on that dang jug. But she is smart and quick thinkin, with self-preservation foremost in mind.  Ada steals the jug and hides it, unknowingly sealing the bloody fate of her friend, promised partner and hillbilly brother/lover. The Pit wants Ada and nothing less will do.

Although budget, the director has spent good dollars on realistic gore, it’s not overdone and realistic. The flick doesn’t
focus on what the Pit is (not of this world at least) rather the locals that worship it, and you quickly connect with Ada and her friend the Potter.

This budget horror delivers; simple plot, blunt finish, strong and quirky performances. Definitely not your run of the mill hillbilly slasher.
